The MSIPP-EM Internships Program provides undergraduate students the opportunity to complete summer internships aligned with ongoing U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM) missions under the direction of a host DOE National Laboratory, DOE-Savannah River, or DOE Headquarters.

The ten-week internship is performed at a host location, using their facilities and equipment under the guidance of a senior research staff member. Internship activities may include laboratory and site tours, professional development seminars, workshops, lectures, and even social or off-site activities.

Participants are compensated by either a stipend or salary and may receive round trip domestic travel to and from the host location. Stipends and salaries are commensurate with the cost of living at the host location. Interns will receive housing information in advance of their internship.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered eligible, the applicant must:

  1. Be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited Minority Serving Institution
  2. Be working towards a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degree
  3. Have an undergraduate cumulative minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  4. Be a United States citizen
  5. Pass a drug test upon selection
